Hauteville House Celebrated French author Victor Hugo became a resident of St.Peter Port in 1856 when his political views forced him into exile. For the next 15 years Hugo occupied Hauteville House and bestowed on it his personal style and passion for decoration. The rooms flaunt Hugo’s character: of note is the studio, where he completed many of his literary masterpieces, including William Shakespeare and Les Misérables. Hugo’s descendents donated the house to The City of Paris who maintains the seaside abode in the original fashion of the writer. Address: . St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands
